There are various ways you can do to combat depression and negative thoughts, one of which is through humor or jokes. But apparently there are many health benefits derived from humor.
Humor is known to be a panacea for relieving stress, depression or bad mood. As quoted from Beliefnet.com, Saturday (20/11/2010) there is some humor to one's health benefits, namely;
1. Humor can make a relaxed
Such as exercise in general, humor that makes people laugh will work to counteract the chronic stress that makes a person feel relaxed or casual. When people get the humor, then it will decrease the autonomic nervous system that makes the heart more relaxed.
2. Humor can relieve pain
Dr. Elias Shay, head of psychiatry at Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore revealed by watching a comedy or involved in something that relates to a joke can reduce the pain experienced by someone.
Known also someone who gets humorous stimuli after surgery can reduce pain and reduce the potential for drug delivery.
3. Humor can improve the immune system
The study, led by Lee Berk and Stanley A Tan of Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, Califormia in 2006 found that two hormone beta-endorphin (reduces depression) increased 27 percent and human growth hormone / hGH (which help the immune system) increased 87 percent when watch funny videos.
This suggests that humor or jokes fun can increase the body's ability to fight viruses, foreign cells and harmful chemicals.
4. Humor reduces stress
Researchers from Loma Linda University also found humor and jokes could help reduce levels of three hormones associated with stress are cortisol (stress hormone), epinephrine (adrenaline) and also hormone dopac. Thus researchers suggest positive ways such as humor to reduce harmful stress hormones.
5. Humor reduce fear
Humor is the most fundamental happiness tool. Physiologically humor can cover up the fear experienced by a person at the same time. So, humor can change a person's perspective about the painful memory of the past and replace it with happiness.
